Weaving from bulbs allows you to create a thing that is very practical and at the same time beautiful. You can weave in different ways, the most common way is the “French braid”, as you can call it by analogy with the well-known female hairstyle. The result is something very decorative, attractive, capable of decorating the head of the owner, if we are talking about hair, or the room, if we mean the bow. Moreover, such an onion braid is not just a whim or entertainment. It also has great practical meaning.
Why is it better to braid a bow like our ancestors did?
For onions, this method of storage is more useful, for the owner it is cheaper and more convenient: you can move it quickly and without additional devices, and you don’t need to spend money on baskets, bags, shelves. In addition, it is convenient to select as much as needed from the bundle, and it is also much easier here than in a bag or basket to notice those bulbs that have begun to deteriorate. Well, in the end, since a woman most often has to weave onion braids, she can always admire herwork.
Such bundles hang beautifully both on the ceiling and on the walls. You can weave wreaths from them, get by with a simple braid, decorate with additional elements in the form of imitations of fruits and vegetables, even such a bundle can be decorated with real fruits and vegetables. Most importantly, in the braid, each bulb is free from all sides for air access. And it ventilates much better than in the same basket or in a large mesh bag.
A few words about choosing a bow
A scythe from a bow will not work out of anyone, there are subtleties here. It is clear that the bulbs should be with feathers. However, completely green, raw feathers are not suitable for creating a braid. The reverse situation is not very good either: the feathers and the bulb itself were very dry and, when trying to weave, began to break and crumble. It is important to find the golden mean here. Feathers that are too wet can begin to deteriorate and rot, with feathers that are too dry it is difficult to weave. A little dried - just right.
Here are some little secrets on how to weave onion braids:
- easier and best to work with already dried, but not completely dry plants;
- bulbs with long feathers are more convenient to work with, and weaving is stronger in the end;
- the feathers themselves, unlike the "arrows", are more plastic and flexible, so weaving from them alone will turn out neater and thinner;
- ready-made braids, if you do not plan to use them immediately, it is better to hang them for storage in a cool and dark room;
- so that the bundle does not tear under its own weight, itit is better to strengthen - weave the bulbs together with twine or a piece of rag.
French braid
The simplest weaving of onion braids is like a “French braid”, it is similar in technique to this famous hairstyle. It starts from three "strands" - three bulbs with feathers, with twine attached to one of them. There may be more plants, the main thing is that they are divided into three bunches.
In order not to weave everything too tightly, you can twist the plants together several times, and only then add more bulbs.
All new bulbs are woven in the same way. The end of the braid must be tied tightly with twine, and excess feathers can simply be cut off. The end result is a pretty bundle that you can hang right in your kitchen and cut off vegetables as needed.
According to a similar principle, you can get bunches of a different type or a “simple” braid - in this case, the bulbs need to be added only to the side strands.
Decorative bundles
Since you can weave onion braids not only for better preservation of vegetables, but also as a decoration, in some houses they are found not only in the kitchen, but also in the living room, dining room, office and many other places. Onion bunches are decorated with dried flowers, colorful peppers, garlic, grapes, leaves (green and yellow), physalis flowers and everything that the master's fantasy can offer. It takes more time and effort, but since few people know how to weave onion braids in this way, and you can get a good income.
