In arranging a fence for a private house, it is important to observe several performance qualities that may seem contradictory. This applies to reliability, ergonomics and functionality. Indeed, wood and stone with concrete only under certain conditions can provide a combination of the listed properties, but this does not apply to metal fences. Mounting a steel structure requires some cost and physical effort, but the result is worth it in most cases.
Installing a fence from a profiled sheet
Galvanized sheets with polyvinyl chloride or polymer coating with the addition of synthetic resins are suitable for the fence. This is a protective layer that will protect the base of the profiled sheet from corrosion, frost and minor mechanical damage.
The installation of the material is carried out according to the following instructions:
- The installation points of the bearing pillars are being marked, to which the sheets will be fixed.
- Digging holes for piling. The depth can be 70-100 cm, and the diameter is about 30-40 cm.
- Crushed stone, gravel or broken bricks are poured on the bottom of the dug holes with a layer of about 20 cm.
- Poles are installed vertically to ensure secure fixation. For fastening, a cement mortar is used, which must be filled in each pit. The pillars are left for three days - this is the time for the mixture to solidify.
- With the help of transverse logs, the basis for mounting a metal fence is made. Profile strips are cut out of the corrugated board, which later will need to be welded to the posts horizontally.
- Solid galvanized sheets are attached to the logs with self-tapping screws 35 mm long. Fixation points should be 50cm apart.
Installing a metal picket fence
In this case, not solid metal sheets are used, but planks resembling a regular board. Only in contrast to wood material we are talking about thin profiled segments, in which holes for fasteners are specially provided. Like the profiled sheet, the metal fence has a galvanized coating with protective layers. You can install a fence from a metal picket fence with your own hands using the following instructions:
- As in the previous case, pits are dug with an indent of 100-150 m, inwhich, using the same technology, load-bearing poles are installed. The parameters of the pits are the same - the thickness is 30-40 cm, and the depth is approximately 1 m.
- A rectangular metal profile is used as a transverse log, on which the picket fence will be directly mounted. Logs are mounted in two horizontal lines - about 30 cm from the ground, and at a height of about 150 m.
- Previously, it is necessary to make holes in the profiles with a drill for metal. Their format must match the mounting holes in the picket fence.
- Fence strips are screwed to the horizontal profile at the junctions. Alternatively, you can use welding instead of hardware, but in this case, dismantling will be difficult.
Installation of a wire fence
This is one of the most reliable designs, expanding the possibilities for landscape design. On such a fence, you can put decorative climbing plants that will make the appearance of the fence more attractive. The design is made to order from forged elements in segments. Each segment involves docking with the neighboring part of the fence and the presence of a supporting element in the form of a column for deepening. Actually, the installation of a metal fence of this type involves assembly using clamps or locking mechanisms provided at the heart of the structure. In parallel with this, the columns are also immersed in the prepared pits, as in the previous structural options.
Fabrication and installation of welded structures
This waysuitable for those who want to save on the manufacture of structures for the fence and at the same time know how to use a welding machine. In particular, a household inverter appliance with a current of about 190 A is suitable. Initially, a design scheme with horizontal profile strips and vertical bars is developed. In accordance with the characteristics of the structure, the material is also purchased. Bearing poles are also being prepared, to which horizontal logs will need to be welded. As a rule, the manufacture and installation of metal fences is carried out in separate stages, but they can also be combined. In this case, the assembly will be carried out alternately with the fastening of each rod. And yet, experts recommend adhering to the technique of sectional installation in this scheme. That is, first separate sections 50-70 cm long with profile stiffeners and vertical bars are welded, and then a solid fence is assembled.
Installation of a metal mesh fence
This kind of fencing structure is highly functional, preventing the penetration of strangers and animals and at the same time creating conditions for the installation of hedges. A chain-link mesh with large cells is optimally suited for such tasks.
At the first stage, the marking of the site is also done with the designation of the installation sites of the supporting pillars (distance - 2-3 m). Pits for installation can be made less deep, since the effect of windage in strong winds will be lower. The pillars are covered with rubble and poured with concrete, as in previous cases. It is desirable to use a mesh web that is continuous, without pieces, from support to support. Installation of a metal fence of this type is carried out using mounting plates or brackets. If the poles are iron, then welded elements are used, and if they are wooden, then you will have to clog the joints with hardware.
Features of the device 3D-fences
A relatively new type of fencing in Russia, which is made of load-bearing metal rods (support columns) welded together and a mesh with transverse bends that give it rigidity. Components involve modular assembly, which facilitates the installation process - according to the principle of the designer.
The installation technology is generally similar to the previous fence device method, but there are two significant differences:
- Installation of metal 3D fences is carried out in separate sections - separate parts of a welded mesh 2.5-3 m wide are fixed to pre-installed load-bearing rods.
- For direct fastening of sections to poles, special U-shaped clamps of a suitable format are used. They capture the mesh fabric in the appropriate nodes, fixing it to the vertical rod. The clamp closes in the clamping mechanism with screws.
The advantages of a 3D fence include rigidity and high wear resistance, which is achieved due to the polymer coating. This means that an open view is provided (if necessary) and sufficient reliability in terms of protection against intrusion, since the design has welded joints.
Decorative design design
The best solution to give the fence an aesthetically attractive look is painting. As the design is in principle subject to high requirements in terms of protection against external threats, several technical coats must be applied before painting. First of all, this is an anti-corrosion coating, which must be covered with a primer. Today, there are also universal paints and varnishes for metal, which combine both decorative and protective properties. In any case, both priming and painting should be done only after the installation of a metal fence, using a standard painting tool - brushes with rollers, or a pneumatic spray gun, if we are talking about large areas.
Conclusion
Installing a fence for private households is a responsible task, but quite affordable for implementation on your own. The main thing is to correctly observe the installation technology, not forgetting about the technical nuances. Self-installation is also beneficial for financial reasons. So, the federal unit prices (FER) for the installation of a metal fence at the moment are about 10-15 thousand rubles. This applies specifically to rigid durable structures using the above materials. Approximately 70% of this amount will just go to the metal base with poles, galvanized sheets, mesh, etc. The labor of workers with the costs of using special equipment is provided by the remaining 30%.
