The times when street lighting was provided by poles with oil lamps, which were lit in the evening by lamplighters, have long been forgotten. Today, this tradition has been transferred to various performances. It brings, rather, some variety than practical use. Modern street lamps (lanterns) are high-tech devices that provide sufficient illumination of the sidewalk and the roadway at night.
Not only did this make cities safer, it also made it possible to decorate every street with a string of lights. In addition, modern landscape designers skillfully use lanterns of various shapes and sizes to transform the garden and place accents on the site at night.
The most important task facing outdoor lighting designers is the choice of materials. Lampposts can be crafted in a wide variety of designs.
However, each such construction will have different properties. This fact must be taken into account, since individual requirements may be stated in different situations, failure to comply with which may lead to the collapse of the structure.
The first lampposts were made of wood, since this material was widely used in construction and easily available. In addition, a significant height of these structures was not required - a lamplighter should have easily reached the tanks with oil and a burner. However, at the same time, they should not interfere with passing crews. The main disadvantage of these structures was their low ability to withstand environmental influences.
Over the past few decades, lampposts have been made from concrete. Of course, over time, the grades of this material improved, which had a positive effect on the quality characteristics. However, the main indicators changed slightly, which allows us to generalize the data obtained and talk about the material as a whole. It is durable and resistant to many environmental factors. Its products have a long service life. The disadvantages include significant weight and considerable cost. Concrete lampposts are porous and therefore susceptible to mold and mildew.
Currently, street lighting is carried out using all modern developments and materials. An excellent example of manufacturability can be poles made of aluminum or steel. The metal structure is quite light and durable, and most importantly - safe. While the fall of the concrete base in the collisionwith all its weight will fall on the car of the unlucky driver, street lamps and lamps on a metal base, so to speak, will go around the car. Such technology has saved more than one person from death, which only proves its effectiveness in such cases. It should be noted that in terms of other characteristics, these products are not inferior to concrete ones.
