How to measure a child for sewing
So, you have chosen what you want to sew. And here the question arises: "How to take measurements from a child"? The matter is complicated by the fact that children are very mobile and they quickly get tired of standing still. During the process, try to entertain the child with questions about where the various parts of the body are. Be sure to arrange breaks, try to take measurements as quickly as possible.
If the room is warm, the child can be stripped down to shorts and a T-shirt. In a cool room, you should leave him dressed, but things should be thin and tightly fit the figure. The kid needs to stand freely, put his legs straight and bring together. At the waist line, you need to tie an elastic band or rope. Move it back and forth so that it lays flat. The elastic should fit loosely around the stomach, but not sag. Follow these rules, as it is very important to take your child's measurements correctly.

There are special designations for measurements. Write them down in advance in your notebook so you don't get distracted later:
-
Child growth. Unravelchild and put it against the wall. Make sure it stays straight. Measure the distance from the crown to the heels. If you have a height meter, this will greatly facilitate the task.
- Bust girth - OG. Pull the measuring tape under your armpits around the entire circumference of your torso. Measure around the fullest part of your chest and back.
- Waist - FROM. You tied an elastic band around the child's waist. This is how OT is measured.
- Hip circumference - OB. This measurement is taken at the most convex places of the buttocks.
- Sleeve length - DR. The child's arm is bent, apply the centimeter to the shoulder joint, stretch it through the elbow to the wrist.
- Neck girth - OSH. Measured around the base of the neck. Take a break! Let the young fashionista stretch his stiff limbs.
- Front length to waist - DPT. From the shoulder line through the chest to the elastic at the waist of the child.
- Arm girth - OR. Use a centimeter to measure the widest part of your arm.
- Wrist girth - oz. Measure around your wrist.
- Product length - CI. How to take this measurement from a child? Depends on the product. If this is a dress, measure from the shoulder line down to the desired length. For trousers, measure from the waistband down to the feet.
- Back to waist length - DST. Measured from the back of the seventh vertebra of the neck to, again, the elastic at the waist.
- Front width - ShP. We measure the child from one armpit to the other. Remember, the measuring tape should not fit too tightly to the body.
- Back width - ШС. It is measured in the same way as the width of the front, only from the backbaby.
- Leg girth - OH. Measure the widest part of your leg with a centimeter.
These are the basic measurements that are used for sewing products for children. Intricate patterns may require more specific measurements.
