Several thousand years ago, oak sage was considered a magical plant that can bewitch, arouse sympathy and even love. At present, anyone can plant and grow this plant on their site, and it is valued solely because of its medicinal properties.
Sage leaves contain organic acids, phytoncides, alkaloids. They are used in medicine and cooking. Harvesting sage leaves is very simple: they are collected, dried in a dark, cool room and stored in a dry place.
Oak sage - planting and care, cultivation and reproduction
There are three ways to breed sage: seeds, seedlings and by dividing the bush. The plant is quite well adapted to winter, undemanding to the soil in which it grows, however, it is still preferable for it to still fertile wet lands.
Despite its useful properties, oak sage is quite decorative and at the same time very light-requiring. These features should be taken into account when choosing a site for its landing.
Whenwhen growing sage from seeds, it is recommended to pre-soak them in a growth stimulator (for example, Energen). The seeds should be kept in solution for about a day, then slightly dried and sown in pots.
Planting in the ground is done with germinated seeds, which are placed in well-watered small grooves.
The main care for sage is to carry out systematic weeding, loosening the soil and regular watering.
Oak sage must be fed every spring, using organic fertilizers for this. In one place, the plant can grow up to 7 years. Three-year flowers rejuvenate somewhere in the month of April. To do this, cut the shoots, leaving about 15 centimeters from the soil level. Thanks to this, the bushiness of sage increases.
Oak sage differs from its counterparts in a more delicate aroma and peculiar flowering. The plant begins to bloom in the first year, around mid-July. In the second year of life, oak sage (photos are shown) blooms for a much longer period of time, starting in June and fading only in August.
In addition to medicinal properties, this type of sage is very often used to decorate flower beds and other group plantings. Salvia is harvested in the morning, always in dry weather, during the flowering period of the plant.
Having amazing medicinal properties, sage is a completely unpretentious plant. It is so winter-hardy that it does not require additional shelter for the winter. In addition, it is practically not susceptible to diseases and is veryresistant to various kinds of pests.
Sage is very easy to self-sow, after the first flowers fade, seeds form on the peduncles.
And its decorative properties are truly amazing. Sage looks amazing with roses and geraniums. Its bright purple small flowers set off the delicate pastel colors of roses very beautifully.
Be sure to plant this wonderful, unpretentious and beneficial plant in your area.
