Modern water supply systems require the indispensable installation of a pressure reducer. This device will protect expensive heating and plumbing systems from dangerous pressure drops in water systems.
Water pressure reducer - a device that allows you to limit the pressure in the pipes. It helps to preserve the integrity of both the pipes themselves and all related equipment: taps, mixers, flexible pipes. Thanks to the gearbox, it is possible to prevent emergency situations associated with ruptures and system leaks that occur as a result of water hammer. In addition, the water pressure reducer serves as a regulator and helps to reduce water consumption, which is important in conditions of general economic instability. The installation of this device is especially necessary when the maximum pressure in the supply network exceeds the allowable operating pressure set for pipes, fittings and household appliances.
Water pressure reducers have an extensive classification, which is not so easy to understand. The main thing to note:they, like all water supply valves, are designed for certain operating conditions, which are characterized by an acceptable range of temperatures, pressures, etc., therefore, when installing them, it is necessary to comply with technical requirements.
According to the method of maintaining the set parameters, water pressure reducers are divided into two types:
1. Dynamic controller. It is used if it is necessary to maintain pressure with a constant continuous flow of water in pipelines.2. Static regulator. Let's apply for those cases when water intake is changeable and uneven, for example, in houses, apartments, some types of equipment. This device always maintains the set pressure after itself.
Reducer sets the pressure in the water supply automatically, for its operation does not require electrical equipment. The water pressure regulator is a pressure reducing valve, which is operated by a weight or spring, or directly by water pressure. According to the principle of the device, regulators of indirect and direct action are distinguished. In turn, the latter can be lever or spring.
Water pressure reducer - working principle
In spring-loaded valves, the pressure is reduced due to the equalization of efforts. The force of the setting spring is counteracted by the force of the diaphragm. When the force received by the diaphragm from inlet pressure is reduced due to drawdown, the higher spring forcecauses the valve to open. The outlet pressure then increases until the elastic force of the spring balances the force of the diaphragm. Since the inlet pressure cannot affect the opening / closing of the valve, its fluctuations do not affect the outlet pressure in any way. As a result of the operation of the regulator, the inlet pressure is balanced.
Reducers are installed on hot and cold water lines. It is preferable to use a horizontal pipe section for this purpose, but if necessary, installation on a vertical riser is allowed. In order for the water pressure reducer to work flawlessly, it is required to install a filter at the inlet to it, which should be cleaned periodically, simultaneously with cleaning the reducer seat. Regulators do not require other maintenance, and worn parts (membrane, mesh) can be easily replaced without dismantling.
