Furniture, warehouse equipment, garages and small building structures are often designed with guide rollers. This element provides the possibility of convenient movement of the object without harm to its base and flooring. At the same time, there are different approaches to the manufacture of such elements, taking into account operational features. So, cabinet rollers require smooth running, and gate models must withstand mechanical loads.
Where are rollers used?
The main scope of such accessories covers furniture production. Small size, reliability and accuracy of layout are just the qualities that are valued by manufacturers of tables, wardrobes, sofas and armchairs. The presence of rollers in the design of such an item makes it convenient to move it, control doors and drawers. And this applies not only to home furniture, but also to professional equipment. In particular, guide rollers are used as part of warehouse racks and commercial equipment. Separate categories of such devices are used by manufacturers of door sections. Such models of rollers are more massive in size, increasedwear resistance and gentle effect on the floor covering.
Furniture casters
Furniture items are equipped with swivel fixed mechanisms, as well as wheels with a brake. For each of these systems, special rollers are used. So, to perform a complete fixation of an object in one place, devices with wheel and swivel locks are used. But this does not mean that the rollers remain immobilized forever. With simple manipulations, the user can unlock and move the furniture. According to this principle, guides for sliding wardrobes operate, which are equipped with plain bearings or ball elements. This arrangement allows you to save the operational life of the working parts of the cabinet and at the same time make the piece of furniture more functional and practical. However, the wheels can be different and the higher their durability and the more stable the ride, the longer the main object will last.
Door rollers
Depending on the characteristics of the door structure, its fittings may have guides with a different number of gutters. In addition, such mechanisms are divided according to the principle of location, not to mention the division into radial and direct devices. Compartment doors on rollers usually provide for the lower location of the guides into which the leafs are integrated. The upper rails in this case only correct the vertical arrangement of the sections. With regard to the mentioned number of grooves in the guides, then inin most cases, it corresponds to the number of sliding doors in the span.
For sliding configurations, guides with one chute are used, since the movement of their section occurs in one plane. In one set, roller doors can be supplemented with bottom and top rails. The peculiarities of such systems include the fact that they serve the work of exactly two canvases, and not one sash, as in the classical design. At the same time, sections in normal operation do not go into each other's work areas.
Rollers for sliding gates
As part of the wheels for gates, the so-called end or rolling rollers are usually used. These are removable elements that are fixed to the guide profile. In addition to the beam travel, such wheels ensure smooth closing of the wings. Present in the general design of the running gear of sliding gates and an additional roller with a plug, which prevents the ingress of dirt, snow and other foreign elements into the guide mechanism. It is also important to emphasize the operational characteristics that distinguish rollers for sliding gates already in standard versions. Such parts have high wear resistance, temperature protection and, of course, a considerable margin of safety. These qualities are determined not only by the materials of manufacture, but also by structural elements - in particular, it can be the presence of stiffeners and side stops. Depending on the design of the door, the system may include the addition of a running gear in the form of side rolling limiters, as well asspecial catchers for soft fixation of the wheel.
Models with inner clip
Models of this type are recommended for use in cases where increased loads are expected. Usually these are rollers, the diameter of which varies from 6.2 to 25 cm. Provided that the accessories with the cage are correctly installed, the guide can withstand an axial load of about 215 kN. With high wear resistance, such structures are easy to maintain. In particular, guide rollers with an inner race can be easily dismantled and replaced. The threads and sizes of the landing points are of a standard format, which makes such rollers universal in use. However, this does not in the least eliminate the need for an individual selection of a roller for a specific chassis.
Pin rollers
These models have diameters ranging from 2.6 to 20 cm. They use two sets of single row ball bearings in small support systems. Large elements of this type are used in tapered roller bearings. Modifications with increased strength indicators are also suitable for use in cantilever and standard mechanisms. All pinned guide rollers are also available on the market with eccentric elements. Such models are usually marked with the letter "E" in the description of the video. The advantages of such devices include the possibility of vertical movement along the cam, during which constant interaction with the rolling surface is maintained.
What materialpreferred?
There is, of course, no universal material from which rollers for different applications could be made. In the production of office furniture, for example, polyamide and polyurethane elements are used. Such products retain the optimal characteristics of the contact layer, and at the same time provide sufficient strength. For home furniture, beech guide rollers are usually used, which, in addition to technical and physical qualities, are distinguished by external attractiveness. It is important to understand that monolithic devices for such purposes are practically not manufactured - the combination of a solid base and an elastic outer coating made of rubber or the same plastics is considered optimal. Of course, warehouse equipment and doors require rollers with higher load capacity. In this case, high-tech polymers reinforced with fiberglass are used to complete the objects. The most durable models are made of steel, which can withstand loads of more than 1 ton.
Mounting videos
If the installation of the guide rails themselves is easy with the help of special hardware, then the rollers can be completely non-separable. But, there are exceptions to the rule. For example, in the support mechanisms of wardrobes, experts consider the lower rollers to be a weak point. The fastening function in the rollers is performed by screws, latches or flags, which are fixed in the corresponding holes. But it is important not to confuse these elements with regulators. For dismantling, you only need to remove the non-working elementaccessories and install a new one in its place. In this case, the replacement of the guide roller must be accompanied by adjustment. In the case of the same closet, it is usually necessary to adjust the gap between the wall of the furniture and the door using the mounting screws.
Conclusion
In the choice of furniture and its operation, fittings are not always noticeable. Usually, only decorative elements are distinguished, and details with a practical function are left without due attention. It is these elements that include guides for furniture doors, which are hidden in the working rails, but at the same time perform very important tasks. The failure of this accessory can render the entire cabinet unusable - at least in such situations repair is indispensable. No less important is the role of guide rollers in mounting structures, gates, racks and other mechanisms. Careful maintenance of this fitting will extend the life of its components and increase the working life of the main object.
