Many women and girls love to make homemade cakes. For some, this activity is not only a way to pamper your family with delicious food, but also a way to earn money. Custom-made mastic and cream original cakes bring a good income. To make a unique confectionery product, you need to have not only skill, but also some kitchen utensils. A wonderful helper for assembling and decorating a cake is a rotating stand.
What does it represent?
The spinning cake stand looks like a round, flat, thick tray with a leg. The fixed circle-tray is driven by a bearing built into the leg. With a slight movement of the hand, the entire structure with the cake on top begins to rotate in a circle. This allows craftswomen to work on decorating the cake as comfortably and ergonomically as possible. It is very convenient, by rotating the cake, to cover it with mastic and decorate with small details. In addition, standcan be used to enhance dessert presentation.
What spinning coasters are made of
In pastry shops today you can easily find a swivel stand for both professional and amateur pastry chefs. Usually spinning coasters are made in the form of a circle. But sometimes you can also find a square shape.
The material used to make coasters varies. They can be:
- plastic;
- metal;
- glass;
- wooden.
Depending on the type of material, prices for spinning coasters will vary. So, the most expensive will be metal products. They look solid, will last a long time, but are quite heavy on their own. A glass stand will cost a little less and will have a light presentable look. It is easy to care for such coasters, unlike plastic and wood, they do not absorb food particles and retain their appearance for a long time.
Stand made of wood will look solid, costs a little less than glass. The advantages are naturalness and attractive appearance. With proper care, it will last quite a long time, but over time it may lose color, chips appear. A spinning plastic stand is the cheapest option. It is lightweight and comfortable. But replacing such a stand with frequent use may require quite quickly, just like a plastic cutting board.
There are also special stands with electric motors. They are shaped like a cylindercan not only rotate, but also tilt at an angle. They are used at various large-scale culinary exhibitions and master classes to demonstrate sweet masterpieces.
How to choose a swivel stand
First of all, you should decide which stand is more suitable for work - round or square. Then choose a diameter based on how large items are usually decorated. The diameter of the circle of the stand can be from 20 to 40 cm. The material of the stand should be chosen depending on personal preferences, finances and purposes of use. It is clear that a novice hostess does not need to spend money on an expensive metal stand, which, perhaps, will gather dust idle most of the time. But for making cakes to order, you can spend money on a more expensive thing for the convenience and speed of work.
The stand usually comes with additional accessories. It can be a transparent lid that will help protect the finished product and serve it effectively, or a special mesh for cutting the cake into even, identical pieces.
DIY spinning stand
It's not that difficult to make a turntable yourself.
1. You will need two bearings (or one double), the base, the connecting tube and the top of the table. Bearings can be purchased at an auto parts store. The base for self-production is taken wooden. It can be plywood, chipboard, or even cuta circle of the desired diameter from suitable old furniture. The connecting tube may be metal. The top can also be carved from wood.
2. Two circles of the desired diameter are cut out. In one of them, a hole is made in the middle and a bearing is inserted. It can be double, or you can take one more and the second less, and connect them. Then two circles should be connected with liquid nails and self-tapping screws. This will be the stand that ensures the rotation of the rack.
3. Using a metal tube, connect the top and double bottom to the bearings. It is important that the tube fits snugly into the bearing. The top is attached to the tube by cold welding if it is made of metal. If it is double, from two glued circles of plywood or chipboard, then make a hole in the bottom equal to the diameter of the tube and insert it.
4. To give the whole structure an aesthetic appearance, the top and bottom can be finished with adhesive wallpaper. This will make maintenance easier and prolong the life of the turntable.
